Stand Up Reading

These past few weeks my reading group and I have started this new learning slide. In our slide I have learnt quite a few things. I’ve learnt definitions for different words that relate to protesting and I’ve also learnt about protest and what everyone had to do in those protests to make our beautiful land what it is today. Here is a LINK to my slide

Reading

These past few weeks my teacher Matua Travis has started this new learning system. First, he put different people into different groups depending on their reading level . Then he set us up with a independent slide to work on for the week once we have read the book he assigned us to. I quite like this new reading system because we get to experience new reading experiences with different people.

AFED SQUAD

Today my class and I have started this new activity called AFED SQUAD. AFED is this fun learning site for students teachers and so much more. AFED is also this cool and interesting site to learn about Maori language and more about Our Maori culture too. People play AFED by answering questions and earning pounamu on the way, you also can’t move on to your next quest without getting at least 28 or more pounamu out of 30. I personally don’t mind doing AFED squad because its this fun experience with learning and games mixed into one to make it extra fun while your learning.

Olympic Games

This Week back at school we have started a new doc with 3 different NZ Athletes going to the Olympics in France this 2024.

First, You had to find three different athletes and their sport then once you found that you had to put that information in a table below the title.

Next, you had to find a photo of each of your athletes and put that into a table below too.

Finally, Once you have finished those first 3 steps you got to research about their life. E.g How old is Portia Woodman-Wickliffe? Answer: 33 years old or How many medals has lisa carrington won? Answer: 6 medals in total.

The main purpose of this doc was to learn more about the Olympic games and who plays from Nz.

This is Portia Woodman-Wickliffe.

Science This Week

This week we started a science block with each of the Kaiako every day last block but today we did the second block. My favorite block was with Whaea Rachel. With Whaea Rachel we used the scientific method and got to experiment with dry powders and wet liquids . My favorite mix was the baking soda, blue food coloring, vinegar and oil because it fizzed then turned into a lava lamp. My least favorite part was spilling the blue dye all over the table. I learned that different powders and liquids have different reactions.

Dance Action Station

At School these past four weeks I learnt different styles of dance for my action station . These dance styles were line dancing and The heel n toe polka. In line dancing I learnt The cupid shuffle, the nut bush and we made our own line dance in groups to. In the folk dance I learnt the heel n toe polka . I learnt how to move to the beat with my buddy plus the music and more. I really enjoyed making our line dance with a group of our choice. What I found difficult at first was turning with the whole group and my buddy  in the heel n toe dancing. Lastly, The RISE value I showed was success by being able to do all the dances we learnt.

Harold The Giraffe.

Harold The Giraffe.

Kia Ora. On Wednesday the 10th and Thursday the 11th of April all year 5 and 6 in my class got to attend Harold at our school. Our first class was really fun because we got to do jokes to Harold the giraffe with Jo. Jo also showed us some apps with Harold in them. Then she showed us and talked about our basic needs which were Exercise, Water, Food, Wash, Sleep, shelter, safety, Love  and more.

The Next day of Harold the giraffe and Jo we learned a bit more about the body. We learned that an avocado felt like a brain and if you put both your fist together it’s the size of your brain too. One other thing we learnt was about hearts. She showed us a real heart in the body and the same with lungs, veins and more. Lastly we had a mini disco to a Harold song.

ACtion Station

Today we had our action station. We started this last week so this was my second class. First me, Stella and Tiger all went to Tangaroa to see Tailei for dancing. Every week we do A different style of dance for example Like Jazz, Acro or maybe even hip hop. last week we did line dancing and it was pretty fun because we got to make our own at the end. But Today we did heal & toe dancing. Something I didn’t like at first was when Tailei said we had to get into pears but us three all wanted to be together to Tailei put me with a girl named Jade and she was pretty fun then Stella and Tiger went together. something I learnt was heal toe dancing. Something i didn’t understand was when we had to turn with our partner then grip onto another person then some how switch partners. Everyone was confused so we just turned in a circle with our buddy In the end.

What Has Happened Lately

What Has Happened Lately  I My Class For the last few weeks My class and I have been doing a lot of different types of persuasive writing. My favorite part about Tuhituhi so far is probably getting to try to persuade Matua Travis. Something I didn’t understand at first was the super sentences with Whaea Isla. My least favorite part about persuasive writing is probably fitness flip because I’m not a huge fitness fan. Something I learnt was a bunch of new sentence starters and more.
